Sharp pains on the mid-right side of my abdomen?

I had my appendix taken out about 2 months ago and the pain I'm experiencing is in the same general area, but I think it's higher than where my appendix and the site of the surgery was. (Surgery was laproscopic) It's right in line with my belly button, about an inch or two to the right. It's a really concentrated pain, sharp and stabbing. It started about 4 a.m. this morning, went away after a few minutes, and started again about 9:30 p.m. tonight. If I press the area with my finger, it hurts more. Other than the pain, there haven't really been any other symptoms like nausea or vomiting. I have been a bit gassier lately than usual and going to the bathroom is a bit more difficult than it used to be, but not to the extent that it I thought much of it. I noticed this about a week ago. Now that I'm feeling this pain too, I'm wondering if this might be significant.

I'm going to call the doctor that did my surgery tomorrow, but I just want your thoughts as well. Is post-appendectomy pain normal? Will it go away? Or is it something more serious?
