Denon,me mate, was sorry to hear that you're still having the spasms and that they indeed sound to of gotten worse. I think benzo will help short term but,and I say this with concern for you,I have to agree with Reach about the WRAB from them. They are indeed super brutual. BUT,I think you've researched and are going into this with open eyes so I respect your choice to use them on an as needed basis. I think, certainly, from the symptoms having increased recently it would be wise to take something to bring yourself into a more comfortable zone. Theres only so much punishment we can take, friend!
Denon,take care of yourself mate.
love...CC xoxo

The last few days the shaking (abdominal contractions/spasms) has increases considerably to the point that even when I was driving the car I was having them and they even started occurring when I was standing upright. Before they would only occur when I was laying down. I was really starting to get worried about them spreading to occur all of the time. I was even starting to get weird anxious sensations in my arms and legs yesterday.

My wife recommended clonazepam (Klonopine, Benzodiazepine) which she sometimes saw prescribed for patients with muscle spasms or anxiety. So I got some. Took one pill (0.5 mg) last night at 9 PM and I noticed a decrease in the contractions about 1 hour later, but they did not fully go away, nor did I feel tired like I thought I was supposed to. The normal dosage is 1.5 mg/day, so I took a second pill at 12:30 AM. By 1:30 AM all of the contractions were gone and I slept until 3AM when I got up and ate 3 bowls of cereal and went back to bed until 10:45 this morning. So it solved the contractions, plus the sleep issue I was having. I'm a little worried about the 3 bowls of cereal side effect!!!!

I asked about the abdominal contractions and a doctor responded saying that it was a normal complaint of opiate users as a long term w/d - lasting 10-12 weeks after going clean. So, I'll see how this goes and of course, I'll have to taper off of this med as well because of it's side effects.

Also, clonazepam and oxycodone have a drug interaction that could be fatal - so I have extra motivation to stay off of the Oxy!!!!

Keep your fingers crossed that this works to solve my two biggest problems - shaking and sleep! Then I'll have to work on my third problem of winning the Power Ball lotto!

Morning Denon --I am in the same boat bud and I am being very careful. I am using Ativan (benzo) to help with the withdrawals. I am just about done the bad times and its time to get rid of them also. I have only taken them at night as needed, but its still a slippery slope that I dont want to mess with. Had a friend the other day, that I had NO CLUE was on a BENZO go to the hospital for an MS attack, then when he was released it had been about 20 hours since his last dose and he went into a HUGE seizure. Very scary. This is the reality of the Benzo regular use that we all have to deal with. REACH, got off HIGH amounts of Oxy very quickly, but it took forever for her to get off the Benzo. After all the hard work we have put in to get off an Opiate, why subject us to another problem. Lets both see if we can find another way. Our stomachs are a MESS right now. Just last night, I went out to dinner with my wife for the first time in a LONG time and I had some greasy calamari, instantly my tummy rejected in and went into spasms. I ended up having to leave the table and go home. Sucked, but that is were I am at right now. My tummy hates me for what I have done to it.

Thanks Lugar and FullCircle for your concerns - I know that there will be possible w/d's and I will need to taper off, but I was at the point where whenever I laid down I would shake constantly. They kept getting worse and worse. I could not sleep w/o taking Arabien to knock me out and I don't want to get hooked on the Arabien again. Once the contractions started to occur more and more often I started to get very concerned, especially once they started when I was sitting upright and even standing. Right now the Benzo is working and I'm trying to take them only in the evening. So far today - not a single contraction, plus I slept like a baby last night. Like I said, I did my research on them. Next week I'll start to taper down and be off of them by the weekend and see if the contractions reappear or not. From the w/d's I went thru coming off of the Oxy, I don't think anything could beat that, but I'll wait and see how it goes. For the moment that are working and I'm sleeping - two things I really needed. Thanks for your concerns - they mean a lot to me!! Its a constant uphill struggle to get clean, but one way or another I WILL make it. Just doesn't seem like anything is easy anymore!! I never thought I would be going through all of theis when I was taking the Percs for the pain. never...

Aside from the doctor putting you on the meRAB for the spasms, did he say what could be causing it or does he think that it is just a part of the wd's?

How long do you have to be on the clonazepam? I've been taking it on an as needed basis for a few years for anxiety and it works real well.

Good luck and just remeraber to keep an open line with your doc about the meRAB because they can be addicting also if taken daily.

Hopefully the spasms go away on their own.

Have a great night!

Hello Denon

I am sorry about the contractions there. Hope they pass soon.

Denon, I am going to play devil's advocate here and say to really watch what you are doing with benzos. They are worse than opiates to get off of... I say this with experience as I came off Xanax after getting off Oxycodone. The benzo withdrawal was nothing shoort of brutal.

If you must take the benzo, Im would take it as infrequently as possible and not in any routine time schedule... the body just gets accustomed to them too quickly.

Take care, Friend... I know you have been walking a long road here.

Best wishes

Mate,I dont think any of us thought we'd get in a situation like this but here we are. You're going in the right direction...a little more every day. I can understand why you took the benzo and it seems you're very aware of controlling the doses. Your doing good.;)

Where did you hear this? I was prescribed both these medications concurrently with no issues. Reading up on this online, the only caution expressed is to watch for increased CNS suppression, which can potentially result in depressed breathing.....but this is an expected side effect with any sort of powerful pain medication or benzo corabination.

Other than that, there is no dangerous interraction between the two.

Reachout - I have thoroughly researched the drug, its side effects, drug interactions, dosages, and just about everything else. I know they can be habit forming and that they can have w/d's, so I will have to taper down when I get off of them. I'm going to take them for a week and taper down and see if the contractions have passed. I guess if I have the 12-week version of the w/d contractions (why not with my luck!), I would need to take them for 6 more weeks, but I'll see how it goes.

After my whole incident with the pain meRAB and the subsequent w/d's that I went through, I found out that I cannot always trust the doctors to give me the complete story and I need to make sure I do my own research. The pharmacist was very helpful answering my questions, but he is busy and cannot afford to take 1/2 hour out for me to talk to him. So, the ultimate responsibility is for each of us to know about the prescriptions that we are given and how they will effect us before we put them into our body.

No the doctor only said they were common in opiate w/d's. I will continue to do research on the problem and try to identify the physiological reasons for them.

Hi denon, so sorry to hear your suffering so bad from the spasm's. I am going through something similar right now from a allergic reaction to antibiotics. I know your's are from withdrawls, but can I ask if it is up high below your breastbone? My last visit to urgent care yesterday I found out my contractions/spasm from the allergic reaction, is really bad acid reflex! It is awful and can get so bad when I am having the spasm's I actually grunt. I wanted to share this with you, I hope you start to feel better soon.
Crocheting

crocheting - my spasms are my entire abdominal muscle area, from pubic area up to sternum, including the side, rib muscle areas when it becomes bad. It's just like if you were doing crunches for exercise. Yes, they sometime are so hard they make be grunt and when it is REALLY bad they contract and stay fully contracted for up to 30 seconRAB. I can barely breath when that happens - just short, quick, shallow breaths in the upper part of the lung. Once it hits that stage, the full long contracts will continue occurring until I get up and start walking around or doing something physical. So far today - no pills and no contractions at all!! WooHoo!!!
