How the times have changed! The kiss between Kalki Koechlin and her friend in a pub with a feeling of adventurism written on the face of Kalki and a feeling of shyness or rather an element of shock written on the face of her friend in SHAITAN is an indication of the strides that the country has traversed in being ignorant or rather taking it in stride expression of love on the silver screen by same sex persons, more so among the females. Just a decade ago it would have been met with moral brigade turning the country upside down to protest such expressions of love on the silver screen. The manner in which the kiss has been portrayed in SHAITAN is indicative of the maturity and the choice of two young protagonists is also indicative that the present generation indeed is more forthcoming and does not wish to brook interferences in its choices of partners as far as expression of love is concerned. SHAITAN indeed provides a reference point to revisit such moments in Indian film industry and to provide a snapshot of the growth of expression of such kind of relationship.
