I am looking for a shade tree to plant in the back yard which will grow quickly enough to produce shade withing the next few years here are the general requirements:
-Good to plant in zone 7
-No surface roots
-Doesn't completely kill grass under it
-Doesn't drop anything that would be unpleasant for bare feet
-Is a strong and long living tree (not one of these trees that grow fast but then break in half after 10 years when there is a big storm like a Bartlett Pear)
Some tree's I've thought about are: Village Green Zelkova (but I've heard they don't provide good backyard shade because of the vase shape) London Plane Tree (but I'm worried that it will drop a lot of stuff in the back yard) and a Crimson King (but I read on some website that a lot of people hate these trees)
I'd like a suggestion for a good tree, or perhaps some more information about the tree's I've mentioned to help me make my decision.
THANKS!!
