he is being selfish and doesnt want you to go back to your ex or possibly going back... sex buddies usually dont have a successful relationship. if he wanted a relationship he would tell you!

if he is going to be your BF, then he has a right to know what's going on between you and the ex and to ask you to stop seeing him if the ex is a distraction to the relationship.
