Coby, I think jdog really has something there. Suddz in a hot tub.

Chrissy, I had a very hard time getting to sleep when I first herniated. Tried all kinRAB of positions, all sizes of pillows stuffed everywhere, all kinRAB of surfaces. Pain, pain and more pain. Tears. Exhausted. Then I bought a Tempurpedic. Slept like a baby the first night. Good also for broken ribs. To survive hotels I cart a memory foam pad with me. Bought a memory foam twin-sized mattress for my office for daytime naps. My sister has had one for 15 years. I recommended Tempurpedic to my mother-in-law and my friend who had a microdiscectomy a month before I did. They are equally enthusiastic. Carol (Etoile) also loves hers.

After 3 months of no sex I had enough. Does anyone think having sex will hurt my back? My GF thinks I'm being paranoid but I swear my back hurts more and my leg feels all irritated. Could I have hurt my disc or do you think it is just muscles being used again that have been dormant for awhile? Any experiences or advice would definately be appreciated. I am so anal about this whole post op thing I think i ahve taken it way to seriously.

Coby,
My wife and I had sex the next day after my discectomy two years ago. Not advised. I think it will be much longer after the ADR. Get creative and perhaps get some oral. haha

Of course I'm on my back, on a memory foam mattress, and keeping my spine neutral...lol...SounRAB like I have some reading to do on JFK! Well I am feeling better today, my back is sore and my leg has some "crawling" sensations going on but other than that I am doing good I guess, and so is my girlfriend ;). I hope my good fortune keeps up and I thank you all for your support and humor. Now all I need is a hot tub and I'm set. Good night all and I hope you are all doing well. Thanks HNP, WOogie, JDog, Clawdia. HOpe your backs are holdin up too. Night.

Hi Suddzrus, I think having sex after surgery must hurt indeed for 3 months is rather a short period since you've passed through an op! See, I've been having really awful back pain in my lower back and I can say that sometimes when I make love I feel like a stabbing, prickling sensation in my coccyx, my leg drags... so I better stop it for a while :P Went to the doc round 1.5 weeks back and she told me I've got my coccyx inflammated for some reason. So, yeah I do think you should explain to your gf that you seriously have this pain and it's not being paranoid at all when it comes to your comfort and health :) Man! love is marvellous and she'll undertand what you feel if you try to talk to her openly ;) Hope I've helped in some way...

Claw :)

Hi Coby

OK, let's get down to details. You are on your back, right? On a memory foam mattress, right? She's on top, right? You are careful to stay in spine neutral while she does all the work, right?

Coby,
I don't think you are being anal, just cautious. I do think your pain after sex is just the muscles in your back that you haven't used in the last 3 months, but if you are that nervous than please call yoru surgeon, just to be on the safe side. I hate to be negative but I am 8 months post-op, and I still have pain during sex. I waited about 3 months after my surgery to try and have normal sex with my boyfriend, but I had so much pain in my lower back and my leg, like really sharp. So now I have to refrain from certain fun postions, if you know what I mean. LOL :) I still get uncomfortable during sex and am defintelty sore for at least the whole next day...so my sex life has decreased a whole lot, and my boyfriend isn't too happy about it. But like HNP posted above, you really should just lie on your back, ya know? That is the most comfortable postion for me, and pretty much one of the only ways we can. Well all I apologize for being so detailed but hey we all adults right :) But please if you still feel pain, or are concerned, please call your surgeon. Good luck and keeps us posted.
HNP- are those foam mattress' any good?
-Chrissy :)

by the way, whats my surgeons deal with not letting me lift over 15 lbs still? it has been 14 weeks and I'm itchin to get back into the swing of things. Does anyone know if its normal to keep from lifting things for this long? Thanks again all!

Steve-note taken! lol, did you hurt yourself badly after your one day post op encounter?

Suddz-

I don't know if you've heard all the details that have come out about the life and presidency of John F. Kennedy, but from what I've heard, he led a rather sex-filled life, while having some really major back problems. From what I understand, a lot of his "frollicking" went on in the pool. Maybe that's worth a shot, so to speak. :)

Coby...I am glad that you are feeling better. I am 8 months post-op and I can't lift anything over about 25-30 pounRAB or i get a horrible zing in my back...but I also have nerve damage so that might be it. Hey anytime, that's what we are here for..

It took about 3 months post ADR surgery for me. I had not been able to have coitus for years (!). Still is not perfect. Not successful every time. Fortunately, have understanding, creative wife. :D

Well I'm going up to the GF's place for the weekend...wish me luck you all! ;) Just kidding, it should be nice getting away from LA for the weekend. I hope you all have a good weekend and i'll try to keep in touch over these next few days. Yeah, HNP where do u get those mattresses from?
-Coby
p.s. woogie be careful not to lift too much!
