sex after a cesarean (c-section)?

I had a c-section on aug 6th, some of my stitches have not fully disolved yet, but my husband and i have attempted to have sex a few times. my stitches never bothered me while trying it, and i thought everything was fine until we actually got to the intercourse, it hurt so bad...the first time attempting we had to stop immediately. the second time however we finished but i knew i was stupid for just pushing through the pain. i noticed that down there i was so tight and that was where the pain come from. i have been looking online and asking some people, but to no avail. please someone tell me why it is like this and how long it will be this way!!! *tear*
