Sewing Needle In Skin

Ok, my girlfriend phoned me and at the time her sister had dropped a sewing needle on their mums bed, long story cut short, my girlfriend tells me it could be serious as if the needle enters the body, it can travel up to the brain, even if in the foot!

i havent ever heard anything like this so could someone please explain if this would happen and how,

First of all, did anyone really sit on the pin, or have the pin stick them? If not, who cares? If so, get it out. That is really all that matters, isn't it? This logic sounds rediculous! When a foriegn object enters the body, the body does all it can to reject it, not suck it into the brain. You have been punk'd.
 
If a small object were to enter the circulatory system, it could travel through the body and possibly cause damage to organs. But that would require the object to not just get stuck under the skin, but to actually get into a vein or artery. Highly unlikely.

To find the needle (because getting stuck with a needle in your sleep would not be pleasant), try using a magnet...
 
Hi, thanks for the replies, No, nobody has been stabbed by the needle i just thought that it was the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard that it would be possible for a sewing needle to travel to the brain....beleive me i havent been punked, you just havent met my gf...
 
Ahhh, that's what I thought...the punk'd part was just to tease ya, I didn't mean it. :cool:

That is quite a far fetched theory. Has your girlfriend ever entered into one of those tall tale contests? She would be great! Have fun!
