Severe Vomiting a symptom of Acid Reflux?

My son is 31 and lives across the country from me. He has had severe vomiting episodes for about a year now. He doesn't have insurance and has been to the ER a couple of times. They have given him fluid and run some generic blood work, but say they don't find anything. They gave him some Protonix this last time and said they think he has Acid Reflux.

I have GERD and don't have any problem with vomiting. I'm wondering if he has the correct diagnosis. Any advise?
