Severe SI joint pain? anyone?

Hi all---I have a question that is really bothering me. I have had 2 back surgeries in the past...a laminectomy and a fusion both on L5-S1....this was back in 2004. Fast forward to now---I have had 2 babies in 2 years and am now 38 years old..they are 2 and 7 mos old. When I was preg w/the 7 mo old I fell directly on my hip and went to the ER and was told I had dislocated my SI joint...given some tylonal 3 patted on the head and sent home. Since then the pain has not gone away....recently I fell (yes...again...I am somewhat of a clutz) on the same side---my lower back SI area is in SEVERE pain...my doc initially didn't give me meRAB cuz I also hit my head and a possible head injury grants one no pain meRAB.....4 days later still in severe pain in my back so he gives me tramadol....which I might as well be taking smartees candy. Anyone else deal with SI joint area pain....also goes into my buttocks area and my leg as well-----I am literally unable to function well enough to take care of my babies....so not only do I suffer but so do they. Hubby has no time from off from work so that is not an option. What could this be?? No insurance now means no expensive tests for now...but I am in process of applying for medicaid. And no....i do not have ANYONE to help me with the children...NO ONE...my 13 yr old DD takes most of the brunt work but I have NO ONE ELSE!!!

I didn't fall but I have over 20 years of back problems, SI area included. I woke with severe pain both sides SI area and could barely move. After x-rays I was told I have quite a bit of arthritis both sides in the facet joints. I was sent to a pain doc who checked me over and I was scheduled for SI injection. This was done with sedative and the area nurabed first. It did wonders for me! The pain and swelling went away for months! Mine seems to act up according to the weather. This injection is called an SI injection, and I would advise anybody who is considering having one, to read up on it, ask questions, etc. like I did. I read about people having one without a sedative or being nurabed, and it can be pretty painfull. My sis did, not knowing any better, and said that it was more pain then she had ever been in. You go in to outpatient, have it done, stay a few hours untill the anesthetic wears off, and somebody drives you home and stays with you for the rest of the day. This injection may help you. A pain doc would be able to advise you further. I hope this helps and you get some relief.

Hi! I have had a lot of SI problems over the years, and would also recommend the injections. You can have a pain management doctor do them or a Physiatrist, who specializes in the back. Just make sure they do the injections with active xray (flouroscopy). Definitely take the sedation-I have had the injections both ways, and without sedation it will hurt a lot if you are severely inflammed. I usually get the injections a couple times per year.
