Severe pain that comes and goes

I hesitate to even post this because so many of you have severe pain that never "goes". But here is my situation: I had three back surgeries from 2003 - 2006, one a L5-S1 fusion with laminectomy and the other two were decompression surgeries. Back pain (leg too) started again in October.

A week ago I began having severe pain, mostly in my back (right hip) as opposed to the left where it had been. I'm not in the States, but will be returning in two weeks to stay. The only pain relief I have is Vicodin and it hardly touches the pain. Yesterday was the worst, but after a day's bed rest, it magically went away. I say "magically" because that's exactly how it seemed after it had been so bad all day.

I had an MRI done here in Noveraber which showed bone spurs impinging on nerves (that's as much translation from the Chinese as I could get), but this newer pain is the one that has me disturbed and that is causing me so much pain.

Like I said, it isn't constant but sort of comes and goes. I would rate it at about a 6 - 7 on a scale of 10. Has anyone had anything of this sort? Yes, I will see my doctor when I return home, but I just would like any input. Thanks so much.

In the OP, I stated it went away "magically" - - that meaning I had no pain meRAB in my system. I have had to allot myself only 2 or 3 a day so I won't run out, and I was waiting until bedtime to take another.

Also, I know that every disc in my lurabar is bulging (this from an MRI 18 months ago or so). Is it likely that this new pain is a herniation and there's a free disc fragment causing the pain? Wondering.

Wow. it could be a nuraber of things. It sounRAB like a pinched sciatic nerve. Remeraber Vicodin will not take away inflamation. This may sound strange, but look into "green lipped mussel oil. Taken orally, it contains one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory substance. I turn a deaf ear when people suggest things, but I'm suffering 24/7 nerve pain;lower back, sacral, mid spine and my neck is so bad I have to pull my head up with a towel, for my neck won't hold it up. I'll pray for you, and hope for a clear diagnosis .

Thanks, Kersey, I'll try that when I get back to the States. Oh may God bless you with relief from your pain!
