Setting up Cricket PTT Server?

What do you guys think about setting up a HoFo Cricket PTT server? i think it might be possible to do, only question would be getting the softwear and getting CDMA PTT phones and setting them up so they send it out on port 8080 and you would be set. i know cricket has unlimted talk and really no need for PTT but i just think it would be something cool to do.

You talkin about the PTT that works through CDMA EVDO Service? Verizon has some nice phones that would be killer to take advantage of that extra feature on. Not sure how it could be done, but what you propose makes sense. We should get more input on this and go from there. Maybe find out exactly how it works on Verizon.
 
yeah it would be cool, as far as i know there PTT works over EVDO Rev A, it can work on Non Rev A it would just be slower lol, but very fun to do tho. i think its like PoC/PTToC which is found on GSM, i did find a copy of the softwear a while back just could not tell if it was for GSM phones and or CDMA ill need to find the site again. but yes more input would be nice.
 
you're going to need a pretty robust server to support it, but its more then do-able, since PST can edit the PTT server settings.

BTW, the v750 is a pretty nice phone, and it would work pretty well with what you want to do
 
your two issues on the PTT server are
1. we could only talk amongst ourselves
2. you'd need a server thats compatible with the clients, so that limits you.

The kodiak server is cheaper and easier to use, but there are almost NO cdma hanRABets that have the software (except some metropcs hanRABets, and they're crap kyoceras anyway)
If you were using verizon and sprint flashed hanRABets with PTT (like my v750) then you'd need a qchat server.
 
Well the server should not be a problem xD if you guys are willing to help out with the cost also i think at least a T-1 just only for that should be fine, as for the system, its just a matter of getting the softwear to do it i guess.

now to hunt down a copy of qchat.

xD lol i can only dream of seeing the looks on other cricket users seeing us use PTT lol.

* and yes i know you can do the Cricket/Nextel Hybrid thing as well* but i think its just a nice project to do.
