Setting up and activating phone with Fido. A few questions?

My phone plan is ending this month and I plan on getting a new phone. The thing is, my current plan is a family pack shared with two other people and once my plan ends, I want to have my own branch. It is a 2 year agreement and this is the first phone plan I have ever had, so I have a few questions about the whole phone set-up.

Q #1. If I want to set up my own branch, do I cancel my current plan and make a new one the day of or after the plan ends?
Q #2. To set up this branch, have I to do it over the phone or can I do it in person at a fido store. (I know what phone device and plan I want, so I could get it all done right away).

Once the branch and phone plan is all figured out...

Q #3. can I purchase the phone at a fido store and activate it there?

Q #4. I would need the phone the next day right after my current plan ends, so would setting all this up the day my plan ends be best?
