In the unsuccessful attempts of finding a suitable job that will go alongside my increasing bad health (chronic asthmatic with having up to 3 asthma attacks daily) I decided to register with HM Revenue as a sole trader and to set up my own business. I strongly disagree with just sitting at home and claiming benefits, Id rather find some way of working for and earning my own money so I thought this might possibly work for me.
I register online with HM Revenue in September 2010 and was told to wait 4 weeks for this application to go through. In the meantime I set up an appointment with the bank and opened a business account because under the policies and guidelines for becoming a sole trader I needed a business account to trade.
I heard nothing from HM Revenue and got in touch with the office and they asked me to be patient and wait a further 4 weeks, still I heared nothing and thought that maybe they were just delayed in sorting through applications.
This week I received a letter through the door saying I owe tax for Sept, Oct, Nov when I have not even started trading yet because they have not given me confirmation to do so, they even said I owe money in arrears from a previous bill. I did not receive this previous bill either. Im not sure why this is as to this day I am still waiting confirmation to start trading and cannot get through to the helpline number, there is no queue they just say their busy and cut me off always.
Any help would be appreciated Thank You.
That sounds great, I asked that very same question in the HM Revenue office and the lady at the desk said I could do nothing until I had confirmation from HM Revenue to do so, I wish I had been told this back in September as I have now missed the Christmas period and trading is slow in January February and March.
