Hi, I'm planing on switching my cable provider to Verizon Fios, but am confused about the set top box system. Currently, I have a HDVT (with qam tuner) and two standard televisions without tuners.. I have a few set top boxes, but my family doesn't use them. We just watch T.V without the guide. With Verizon, they offer set top boxes for a monthly cost. My question is:
If I already have a set top box, can I use it instead of the one offered by Verizon? Will I still have to pay a monthly cost, or can I use any set top box and still get the same kind of service - like the T.V guide and so on. Also, if I can use any set top box, can I use any HDTV set top box to get the HD channels from verizon without paying the monthly set top box usage fee?
Also, for my standard analog T.V's, can I use any standard set top box to convert the digital to analog? Or do I need the one offered by version specifically?
