Serving buffet from the stove, classless or OK?

DH and I are middle class with mid-class friends, in our 50s. dinner parties people wear jeans, nice sweater. When people come for dinner and we're ready to serve, we have them come into the kitchen, grab a plate then they serve themselves buffet style with the side dishes like potatoes, veg., etc., on the stove, people help themselves from the warm pots. Is this classless or OK?
Thanks. I mean buffet from the stove rather than buffet from the kitchen table. Is it OK or TOO informal? We;re not trying to impress, but we don't want to look classless, either.
We eat in the dining room bur serve from the kitchen. The pots I use with handles aren't fancy enough for a DR table so easier than tranferring to ANOTHER pot I have them serve themselves from the stove and keep low heat under the pots.
