I'm working as a waitress, and it's my first job as a server. The restaurant is a chain, and a family establishment. We get a LOT of kids and the elderly, and typical bills are only 20-40 dollars ( = around $3.50 to $8.00 per table in tips.)
I'd like to try to find a job at a better restaurant in my town. What are the chances of actually being hired if they need servers? I only have about five months of experience serving, but apparently I'm fantastic at connecting with guests. I still get very flustered if I have more than four tables at a time, tho. Could I actually get a job in an upscale establishment where I could really make some money as a server, or do restaurants like that look for people with a better skill set/more experience than me? Ideally, I'm looking for an answer from someone in the industry, who has possibly managed restaurants before. Please indicate if you have.
