Server back pain for months

Hi Steve, and welcome to the board. You're so sweet to be researching and trying to help your wife!

I would recommend going to a large university hospital at this point and seeing their specialists. Pain is there for a reason! If the specialists you've already seen aren't interested in following up, keep moving. Don't give up! The university hospitals generally are up on the very latest techniques and have attracted excellent physicians. Even if you have to drive a ways to get to one, I'd call and see what spine specialist she can see. Make sure they've done a fellowship, but if they're in a university hospital they almost certainly have.

Keep in mind that it could also be referred pain that seems like it's coming from her back, but is actually from someplace else (kidneys, etc.).

I hope she (and you!) can get the answers you both need!

Blessings,
Emily

Hi Emily,

Unfortunately we're in the UK and it doesn't work like that over here.
We don't have university hospitals the same way you do, the closest would be a teaching hospital, but anyway, the only way to get to any kind of hospital (short of keeling over in the street !) is to be referred there by your own Dr...

I really don't know ! But I'll find out, we're both going in to see her gp next Tuesday and have it out with him . . .

Yikes! I'm so glad we don't have nationalized medicine over here! There were a couple of people in Canada who posted that they had to wait 2 years for the same surgery I waited 7 weeks for, and my "long" wait was because they had to coordinate three doctors' schedules!

I do hope you can get some relief!

Emily
