I'm 23 years old, and just had my first serum glucose test. I'm a bit alarmed by the results. I'm very athletic and in good overall health. 2.5 hours before my test i had a bagel, not sure if that could have effected the results.

But it came back with a nuraber of 56. I've seen 60-100 is normal, but 56 seems close to hypoglycemia and everything i've read seems pretty bad. I'm not on any medications. Anyone ever have a result as low as a 56, or think this should be cause for concern? Thanks

Well, there are no meRAB for low blood sugar. And that's not that low...in fact, mine was that last time and I had a 1/4 bagel with cream cheese and a cup of tea with sugar in the raw about 2 hours before. It's usually around 65. You just need to remeraber to eat every few hours - don't skip any meals - make sure to have a protein each time you eat. You should be fine.

Thanks for the response. I searched all day and couldn't find anything about people who didn't have diabetes or about people in their 20's. I just saw 70 was normal and below 50 meant I was in trouble. Also everywhere talks about liver disease, cancer, kidney failure and tumors. It's hard to know how concerned to be.

When you talk with your doctor about the results, he'll be able to calm your fears. You just need to remeraber to eat frequently. Seriously, you'll know when it gets too low - shakey, lightheaded, etc. I've had it for decades and it never bothers me.

Honestly I don't even have any symptoms. I feel completely fine. I'm never very light headed and work out all the time and have plenty of energy. That's why I was surprised by the results. I really didn't see it coming.

Neither did I when I first found out. Obviously you are eating enough to keep any symptoms at bay. Good deal!

Buy a cheap glucose meter and monitor your fasting and postprandial levels and you'll feel better knowing more about yourself.
