First post - yay!
I thought I would do a quick search online for a reputable health board for a more personal issue - an issue I can't talk to a doctor about; neither any of my friends or family...
My mother (44) has extremely heavy periods and has a liver dysfunction combined with gall stones. She also kept herself fit and healthy, so when she was diagnosed with all of this I was extremely concerned as to why - but speaking with my Grandmother, it's a gene thing again!
Anyway - I recently went with her where she had a Marina Coil fitted a long with something else I can't quite understand (she didn't want to tell me?) ... but on her release notes it mentioned that she urgently needed to be tested for some called "Serum CA 125" ... I was rather curious so I searched the internet for what this could mean - the top results in Google have "Ovarian Cancer" written all over the page.
Could anyone be so kind to explain what the "Serum CA 125" is exactly? I've looked on wikipedia, but haven't had much success with the "Serum" part.
My final question is, should I expect the worst and start dipping into my savings enjoying our lives together to the fullest?
Health problems seem to be one of those things that hits my mothers side of the family the most. My Dad's side hardly have any health problems. I have some major problems of my own ... anyway, that's for another thread!
One thing that concerns me is that my mother seems to live her life off of Pain Killers (Codeine, Ibuprofen and Paracetamol (Nurofen)) and prescribed Antibiotics, which I think could be one reason why her natural defences are lacking... (?)
