Serious students and scholars only, will you take this Islamic test?

Salaams. Please read and answer the following questions to take the test. Shukran.

All questions are to be answered True or False, except question 15.

Grading will be partly subjective based on my viewpoints and partly subjected based on the viewpoints of the jama'ah here.

Question 14 is worth the most points on the test.

Passages used in the test are found in Ahmad Hasan, "The Doctrine of Ijma in Islam," pages 8-10...

For question 1, please use this passage...

"Hydhayfah b. al-Yaman reports, "People used to ask the Prophet about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear of getting it. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, we were in ignorance and evil, Allah brought this good for us; will there be any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Will there be good after that evil?" He said, "Yes, there will be dakhan (dinginess)." I asked, "What is this dakhan?" He replied, "People will follow the Sunnah other than mine, and lead a life without guidance, you will find in them good and evil.""

Question 1: Prophet Muhammad (peace be unto him) said, leadership would be lost and people would end up following a Sunnah other than his.

For Questions 2 and 3 use the following passage:

"The Prophet is reported to have said, "... this community will be divided into seventy-three groups. Seventy-two of them will go to hell, and only one of them will enter paradise. This single group is the jama'ah."

[Jama'ah means community, similar to ummah.]

Question 2: Prophet said one group would enter paradise and identified that group as "the community." By this Prophet meant, that is the community to join and help build.

Question 3: Based on this passage (not alternate hadith, that will be discussed below), Prophet did not name which sect is the one that would be the community to join, the community that will make it to heaven.

For Questons 4 and 5, use information from both passages above.

Question 4: Prophet suggests in his words that 72 of 73 sects are hell-bound. That is, the sects went astray, "have gone to hell," meaning they have become corrupted, and those who stay in them are following a mix of good and evil that will land them in hell for not eradicating the evil.

Question 5: Because Prophet identified 72 sects as hell-bound, but did not identify which sect is the correct one (based on the above passages), it is highly self-interested obligation of all Muslims to examine assumption that their own sect is the correct one.

For questions 6 - 11 please add the following passage that continues the first passage above:

""I asked, "Will there be evil after good?" He said, "Yes, people will invite to the gates of hell. One who responds to them wil be thrown in it." I said, "O Prophet of Allah, tell me their qualities." He replied, "They will be from our group, and will speak our language.""

Question 6: Muslims will be invited to the gates of hell by following a Sunnah other than the Prophet's and those that respond to that invitation (accept that invitation) will be thrown in hell.

Question 7: Prophet identified those following incorrect Sunnah and inviting others to the gates of hell to be thrown in with them as originating with the original Muslim community gathered under Muhammad, and who speak Arabic.

Question 8: The words of this hadith negate the claim of an alternate version of the hadith presented for questions 2 and 3 that includes the Prophet identifiying the name of the saved sect as ahl al-sunnah wa'l-jama'ah and as followers of his Companions as he identifies his Companions in this hadith as candidates for those who would go astray after Prophet was gone.

Question 9: The idea that the Prophet named the saved sect and that a group took that name is too convenient and too obvious a manipulation and trick of rhetoric to be taken seriously that that group would be the saved group.

Question 10. Based on your prior knowledge, the Prophet's Companions included Abu Bakr and Ali so both Sunni and Shia are suspect as being incorrect.

Question 11: There is suggestion in the passage above that the 73rd sect to make it to jannah will not be one that originated from the splits of the original Muslim commnunity gathered under Prophet Muhammad and will not be lead by people who speak Arabic.

For question 12 - 14, please add the following which continues the passage used for questions 6 - 11:

""I said, "What do you advise me to do if I get them?" He said, "Follow the community (jama'ah) of the Muslims and their leader." I said, "If they have no community and leader, what should I do?" He replied, "Leave all the sects, even you take shelter in the root of a tree until you die in the same condition.""

Question 12: Prophet said to follow the community of Muslims and their leader who will make it to jannah, but did not indentify which community that is.

Question 13: Because everything happens for a reason, the questioner to the Prophet was inspired to
Question 13: Because everything happens for a reason, the questioner to the Prophet was inspired to ask so that the advice would be there for us to follow, what to do if one cannot identify which is the correct sect, because it may not be obvious at first and one may need to leave all the sects to study Islam independently to discover which sect or version of Islam is correct.

Question 14: Because it is not based on popularity contest or which group is better at rhetoric and debate, but based on Allah's determinaton, it would serve the self-interests of those Muslims who want to enter jannah to take up critical examination and argument of what is wrong in their own sects than it is for any of them to continue arguments to defend their sect as the one that is right.
Question 15: After taking a few minutes to reflect and think over all that is presented here, write a sentence or paragraph summing up what insight you have gained, if any, from this test or summing up your feelings about it, or your intentions of what you plan to do next as a Muslim with this information.
