Hello,

I am a new owner of an E70, well im getting used to it, but i love it. this may be already stated, but bare with me.

Scenerio: I have my E70 for work, and i have an K790a for pleasure. When im at work i use my E70, when i want to go out, or just have a good time, i want to use my k790a. My k790a just uses my sim contacts, so there are no contacts on the phone. When i put my sim into the E70, the contacts are there, but not in my contact book, i have to use the sim directory. Ideally i want to have my basic contacts on my sim, and all i need are my basic contacts when i use my k790a.

Here are my questions:

Can the e70 use the sim contacts as the default address book (similar to SE)?

Can the E70 use the sim contacts but also give me access to the phone contacts, that i sync with outlook?

So pretty much i want to keep my sim contacts separate from my entire phone contacts yet still have access to them and have the phone recognize them when someone calls.

If that isnt an option, i guess i can copy the sim contacts over, use the phone contact book, and when i add a number that i want on my sim, i will manually copy it, so when i switch phones i will have the number. What i dont like about doing that is when i have a number that i would add to my k790a sim, i would have to remember to copy it over when i switch to my e70.

Anyone else do that?

Why don't you just use Outlook as the master contact database and sync both devices? Unless of course, you're living a double life and wouldn't want one wife to find out about the other...and kids...

no, just the fact that when im out and about and just having fun, i dont want a contact list of 700 people to look through, also i travel, and sometimes syncing them on the go isnt an option.

I just want my key contacts, which are my sim contacts to always be available and separate from my work contacts... I deally if i had groups, the sim contacts would be one group, then the other groups would be my work contacts.

and the husband, i have nothing to hide from him, well maybe a few things

That be the case, I have a couple answers.

There's no way to make the SIM contacts the default Contacts list. I believe there used to be a way on older models, but not anymore. Even when it did work, the default Contacts would be pulled from the phone memory if you sync with Outlook.

If I'm understanding your setup right, it sounds like your Outlook database is the work collection of 700+ and your SIM card holds your key contacts? If that be the case, it sounds like the easiest way to do this would be to sync both devices anyway, and use the extra key presses to get to your key contacts in the SIM directory on the SIM card. Kindof a pain, but I don't think there's anyway to separate it.

I haven't tried it, but maybe you can play with the settings for the contact groups in the E70's contacts and see if you can't keep ALL of your contacts on your phone memory, with your key contacts separated in a group. That way, you'd just have to open your contacts and press right on the joystick to get to your key contacts instead of going through to the SIM directory?

I hope what I just typed made sense?

since this thread is about s60 and contacts i figure id throw a question in. Is there a way to have the n95 run its contacts off of the sim card instead of copying them to the phone. I'd thought they would've have input this feature by now since they've been doing it since the 6101 days and before, but why not the s60 devices?

S60 devices use the SIM purely as a backup. It's there if you need it, but you're supposed to use the phone memory primarily. The reason for this is simple - SIM memory is limited, and you can't add photos, ringtones, multiple numbers per name, and other detail entry. S60 devices are richer than a normal phone.

So no, there's no way on an S60 to make the SIM directory the primary.
