I had terrible acid reflux about three years ago and saw countless GI's about it after none of the medication worked. What I eventually found out was that it was stress induced. Granted not much about acid reflux in conjunction with stress has been documented, but believe me, after years of pain all it turned out I needed to do was unplug and recharge a bit more. That being said, I hope you find a way to do that and wish you the speediest of recoveries.

Has anyone ever been diagnoised with a sensitive esophagus? My mom has burning in her stomach and chest. She had lots of test ran to check acid levels. The test all came back not to much acid. The Dr. says it is a very sensitive esophagus and is going to treat with medicine. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you get treated? How did you come out?

when symptoms start to come on I take a spoonful or two of honey and then I take another spoonful before bedtime . . .it seems to coat and help and is safer than using prevacid or protonix for weeks or months (although I've tried those too)

I was just diagnosed with gastritis and esophagitis the doctor put me on Nexium that chokes me up. I have tried prevacid cant take that. I stay swelled in my stomach. Hurting all the time. Plus vertigo on top of that. I stand on my feet the room spins not as bad as when I am lying down. This is getting to me. Because I go on alot of hikes. It is slowing me down. I am just 54. I have an erosive duodenitis, antral erosions, and erosions at GE Junction. I have tried aloe vera juice that seems to help. Not one to take medicines because of side effects. I do suffer from high cholesteral. Need help Patricia

i have been suffering from acid reflux for 13 years. i have done many tests. the tests showed that i have very little acid flow back in my oesophagus and my sphincter is a little bit weak. I was told I have very sensitive oesophagus. i have tried many different medicine and none of them helped at all. I asked my stomach to give a wrap surgery to tighten up my sphincter but he told they won't do it because i have sensitive oesophagus and even the surgery is not going to help me. All of my symptoms are very
severe. I have burning sensation in my troat, discomfort tongue, sour taste, sometime bitter tast at the back of my mouth all the time. I can't really enjoy my life.
can anyone tell me what i can do to fix these problems? OR any body have sensitive oesophagus have done surgery? If so did the surgery help becaus i need to convince my doctor to let me do the surgery...
thank you,
Jade

I know exactly what your mom has going through because i have sensitive oesophagus too. I have been having this terrible problem for over 13 year. I am 33 years old. I have tried many different medicines but none of them help.
I have done all acid ph test and scope and they all came back normal except for my sphincter is a bit weak, therefore i was told i have sensitive oesophagus. I have burning sensation in my throat, acid at back of my mouth, discomfort tongue all the time. My life is totally ruined by this terrible disease. I have one question for you. did your mom had surgery because she has sensitive oesophagus ? My GI won't let me to have the surgery because I have sensitive oesophagus, even surgery won't cure the problem.

hope your mom is feeling better

My test did not show very much acid being refluxed either but apparently it doesn't take too much. Basically, it sounRAB like your mother's Dr. is going to prescribe meRAB to her probably to see if she gets better. Our esphogus does have some protection from the acid that comes up from the stomach but it may or may not cause heartburn as we are all different. Unless she's been scoped, there's no way of him knowing what her esophogus looks like.

My mom has been scoped several times. She has even had her esophagus wrapped in 2000. This worked fine until 6 months ago when burning started again and continued. She takes nexium for acid reflux even after surgery. Her last scope was done about 2 weeks ago. They put a capsule inside of her that attached to her esophagus. She wore a monitor for a couple of days on her side to read acid levels. The first read was after she had been off her medication and then a second read was done after she started back on her medicines. The results showed no abnormal acid levels and wrap was still in line. She had been told approximately 3 months ago with just a scope that they couldn't find anything wrong. No ulcers, acid just irritated looking stomach lining and irritated looking esophagus. The specialist who did the last scope is now going to treat the esophagus with medication in hopes of stopping the burning. This has been a nightmare when you are a very small lady and all you can eat is bake potato and drink ensure for 6 months.

In my opinion when they can't find a reason they say you have sensitive osephagus. That's what 3 GIs told me, but today 4th GI, and second manometry test, showed I have weak LES, slight hiatus hernia, and the motility motion is not that great either. This is after 3 previous GIs, with all their endoscopies, and tests couldn't find what was wrong and said I have sensitive osephagus, but I knew better because of my symptoms and sufferings.
If your mother had a surgery in 2000, this must have been necessary at the time, and if it gave her relief, perhaps she neeRAB another opeartion? I will definitely get second opinion.
