senior remote for att u-verse tv?

I have att u-verse digital cable. It comes with its own remote to control volume, channels etc. But because there are so many buttons and are small its hard for my dad to read. Also he wants to be able to use the VHS and it could be complicated. In order to view a movie on the VHS you have to use 1st the att remote control to turn on the tv. Than he would get his original tv remote and select the button that says video mode. Once he does that he then has to put the video in and use the VHS remote to press play, rewind etc. So he has to use 3 remotes. Anyone know of a remote that is easy to use and handles both digital cable and VHS. I looked out there but some only do VHS,DVD, cable box but not a converter. I guess I don't know if att u-verse is a digital cable with a converter box. I guess I get the two mixed up. Anyone who may have att u-verse perhaps can be of help. Thanks
