Sending SMS freezes up phone (3250)

When I send an sms, my phone just freezes up for 30-60 seconds, I can't go into menu or do anything at all.
It used to only take 1 or 2 seconds, but as my inbox has grown it's taking longer. I had 1400 messages, so I emptied my inbox, but it made no difference. Emptying my sent messages made no differences either.

So what am I supposed to do? I have these huge gaps of nothingness just because my phone feels like freezing up for a minute.

I've got a 3250. I never had this problem with my 6600.
 
that did the trick, only took a second to send an SMS. I hope this is the only Nokia with this kind of problem, there must be thousands of people out there who are stuck with this problem but might think it's just a bad phone
