Sending files (Networking) from computer to a PS3 and vise versa?

I own a 80gb PS3 and I want know if you can send files from the computer like music and video files to the PS3 via ethernet cable or wifi router connections. And if that would work could you send files from the PS3 to the computer to back them up. So my basic question is, Can you set up a network between a PS3 and a computer?
