I just moved to the South from out West. I love the old historic towns at every port city, especially the art galleries. I would love to sell my work there, but I have no idea how.
I worked for many years doing weddings and portraits but I grew tired of that general business model. I'd like to work at a very different pace now, spending much more time on each capture and print. I have ZERO desire to run a retail operation of my own. I may consider doing traveling art fairs & such, but that would probably be down the road after I have a more well-developed portfolio.
I don't need any help with photography, but I do need a primer on the "etiquette" and expectations of photography galleries. Is there an application process? What kind of range of commissions should I expect to see? Generally speaking should I expect to provide just prints, matted prints, or fully framed and matted prints?
I'd like to focus on the nearby historic towns, but I'd also like to explore any other avenues are successful for selling fine art. Any suggestions?
