Self-Delusion in politics

So, after skimming/browsing threaRAB over the past couple years, I've noticed something.

It's amazing how little time it takes people to forget things. With regarRAB to the Presidency, their seems to be a common trend.

If you're against the party of the current president, they are to blame for all of the country's current problems, lying piece of shit, no good for the country, etc. If the party you wanted to be in power was, then all the problems would be fixed, we'd all have jobs, no taxes, and pretty much shit lumps of gold.

Congress is just forgotten or pushed aside despite its massive role in US politics.

How is it, that over 4-8 years, we can forget that these changes have been coming for years and years and years?

How/why does this happen?

Id guess that most people don't understand, or care to understand much about American, or World History for that matter, so little beyond 8 years is of interest.

Second I would guess that people attach themselves blindly to a certain ideal that comes with a President, or administration. So long as that president associates himself with the common man, believes in god, wunts to give de po' folk dey monies, supports the troops, or is pro-gun, little beyond his actions are cared about. Those folks would likely not care about congress.

Most of the posters have probably entered political forums in the last 12 years and most of that thought has been allocated to arguing liberals are less redneck than conservatives, or conservatives are more patriotic and stronger than liberals.

Just thoughts, use them if you can, throw them out if you can't.

It's more complicated than you are making it

It is not just that the results would be "better" it's that they'd have different results

For example if you listen to Michelle Bachmann, she'll tell you about how Democrats have "ruined" America by teaching evolution in schools, tolerating homosexuality, and expanding healthcare

To that, I don't say "you're so delusional, we haven't done any of that" but rather I say "yes, but I think it's made us better, not worse"

Going over the major Bush policies, there's really not much to argue

Were there WMD in Iraq like Bush said?

Did we have the money to spare for two rounRAB of tax cuts, like Bush said?

Was Cheney right when he said "deficits don't matter"?

Was the Bush WH right when it said its Rx plan for Medicare wouldn't cost much?

Did Bush's neglect of many federal agencies, due an animus towarRAB large government, help or hurt FEMA's response to Katrina?

Did Bush's focus on deregulation and lax enforcement of regulations on Wall Street prevent abusive credit default swags to the point the economy crashed because no one knew what these junk packages were worth?

Has the research shown Global Warming is less likely or more likely? Does it show that it was wise to pull out of Kyoto?

It's not to say people who oppose Democrats don't have any good questions:

Did Obama's stimulus deal with senate republicans get unemployment to below 8%?

Did Clinton's AWB have a dramatic effect on crime reduction?

Did was the surge of 2006/2007 opposed by congressional democrats a failure?
