Seems like I dodged a bullet - but i'm not understanding the behavior?

He says innapropriate things like about his other recent dates before me, a woman he liked and was wondering if she was going to be interested in him again. He got a little gropey on our second date, tried to feel out my interest on second date sex and jumping into a relationship, and then on the third date said "no kissing" and pulled back and said he wanted to go slow so that I was comfortable with that. When referring to something he "thought" we had plans for we never discussed he was upset and said he thought he was "Special". He picked apart things of my personality, he was defensive with everything I said as though I was attacking him - but what he was doing was twisting things so completely to the other extreme they were things that NEVER would have crossed my mind. When I tried to end it he got all upset and blew up. To be honest I took his behavior and things he was saying as a lack of interest - and then he turned it around on me, and accused me of blaming him for everything, when I just didn't get his behavior or the impression he was interested in me.

Never once apologized, and threw everything at me and then said well I still like you - I thought you were a cool friend and it could have turned into more. When I said I didn't think so, that just sent him off the edge. He got mad that I said we should just be friends and kept repeating that but only said "you were beginning to be a cool friend that in time could have turned into more, but not after all your drama"

How can you pick someones character apart, as though you don't like them they way they are, blame them for everything, yet still like them?
