Searching of car in Ohio?

There is no fine line to me on being pulled over for a traffic violation. (Ohio) I know police officers always use tactics for people to give in. When a police ask if you have anything in the car and lets say there is a small amount of marijuana, how do you asnwer? If you say no and he ask to search, can't you say no but that seems that could get you arrested. All i read is to say no but I think that can get you in more trouble because the cops will find a way around it. They don't always actually have "probable cause" to search. Explain
