Hey all. I got a Sony Ericsson w580i in October of 2007, with a 2 year contract. I think the thing cost me $60. It was a pretty cool phone back in the day, but now it's a free phone. Regardless, I'm having alot of problems wiht it.

Buttons have been ceasing to function on my phone after use. 3 have broken so far. The straw that broke the camel's back was the back button breaking. My phone is way too frustrating to use now.

I wanna buy a new one, but since I'm in a contract I'm not sure what I can do. I generally only buy free/rebate phones and get a new contract. I've done this 3 times now, most lasting til the contract expired. This is the first time I need a new one.

What can I do?

If you bought it in October of 07 then your warranty is up...the keys cracking is a known manufacturer's defect. Have you ever had it replaced? It was something that was being replaced for free with another phone. You will probably not be eligible to upgrade til your contract is four months away from expiring which will be about June, therefore unless you have insurance you are pretty much screwed. If you've had a replacement by the warranty that replacement had another 90 day warranty. If you never got a replacement and don't have insurance you're really stuck unless you can get someone to approve you to upgrade early, otherwise you have to buy a phone on your own.
