On Saturday at 9am on Film 24 (sky 157) is the film Scrooge.

This is an old British movie made in 1935. It's considered to be one of the most faithful cinematic versions of A Christmas Carol. It stars Sir Seymour Hicks as Scrooge.

I've never heard of him or this version. Does anyone know if it's any good?

This film is rarely shown nowadays. I did catch it on Channel 4 one night I think many years ago. It is worth seeing though, although it could not be as good as the 1951 version with Alastair Sim.

Incidentally, on the 2 Disc version of Scrooge released on DVD a couple of years back, there are two versions of Scrooge on the extras discs, one was made in 1914, and the other in 1922. If you are a movie/television historian like I am they should be seen. Oldie movies in those days were terribly stagey and dull but dont forget the movie makers were in a very long learning curve at the time.

Now with 3D movies coming along, (I am sure many of you will have seen the recent Christmas Carol in 3D) it shows how movie making has evolved over the years.
