Screen Resolution on HD Tv with dvd players?

Hi, I have this new samsung 50 inch tv, the problem is that when I play movies on it with my Dvd player it cuts off some of the picture at the sides. Not alot, but enough that I noticed it. I am not sure if this is my dvd player or my tv.

Shouldn't my widescreen dvd's simply fit my screen without being cut off? Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Any help on the subject would be appreciated!
 
Is there a zoom button on your tv remote? I wish it was that simple where the widescreen movies just fit but they look really stretched so you have to stretch it up to make it fit and then it fills the whole screen and you don't lost any picture. Try pressing p size (picture size) or zoom or something like that. Just look around the tv remote.
