Screaming in martial arts?

My Answers Suck

Over in the tennis section there have been debates about the women players screaming at ridiculously high volumes. A lot of times the proponents for the screamers will say it is to generate power and liken it to martial artists who yell and scream. I don't buy that power argument at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but not all martial arts do that. Only maybe karate or tae kwon do. I'm thinking mainly tae kwon do. Isn't that yelling actually more to intimidate and startle opponents? I don't really see mma fighters or boxers or shaolin dudes yelling.

So what is your opinion on this screaming in martial arts? Necessary or not? Does it actually help anything? Which ones do the screaming?
Yes I understand exhaling but is the screaming part REALLY necessary? Why do other fighting styles not scream? They want to have powerful strikes too, don't they? What about other sports that need to generate power? They don't scream.
