I have been having trouble with a scratchy throat for about a week. I recently got a cat, but I've lived with one for most of my life(17-19 years). My troat isn't sore and I have no other symptoms. It is worse when I'm in bed, so I've been sleeping on the couch all week. I'll wake up on the couch feelinig fine, but the second I get back in bed it starts itching again. I've washed all my bedding and cleaned the rest of the house, which didn't help. I have nothing else new in my bedroom to explain a cause. I've tried cough drops, hot tea, and taking claritin everynight before going to bed. Is this caused by allergies? I've never had any, except for skin allergies, so I'm unsure what else would cause this.

try taking an allergy pill or nasal allergy spray and see if the itchiness helps. I too suffered for years with the itchy throat, the medications do help alot.

You could just have bad dust allergies. My allergist told me that cats attract alot of dust because dust mites actually feed off their dander. Though expensive, you can try getting anti-allergen bed wrap. I have one and its great for the itchiness. Also try getting a hepa filter and if you have sinus issues a humidifyer. I've had relief from both, but got tired of cleaning and refilling the humidyfier.

I know you mentioned teas, which is great. Also try white sage, that definitely relieves soar throats.
