Scottish gas pre employment checks?

I have an assesment day coming up for a CSA position with Scottish gas. I am expecting to be offered the job but i am slightly worried about their pre employment background checks. Not so much the background check more the credit check they have mentioned they will do. My credit is in the worst possible state it could be in & i have an upcoming bankruptcy. Anyone else been in a similar position or know anyone who has been? also does anyone know how much detail they go into in the background check, i have no problem with checking of former employment etc as that should be fine but they have also mentioned that they may check educational background as well (do they actually do this?). If the credit check is a big part of the checks then i can probably kiss goodbye to the job, do they carry out this check before offering the job or could it come back after i have started? Also with the bankruptcy how will that affect me because it wont be due to start until after i have begun the job. Please only answer if you have experience of a similar matter.
