I recently purchased a 70cc scooter with a top speed of ~45. i am going to use it for commuting on roads where the speed limit is 35 mph. i've been a bicycle commuter and avid rider for about 7 years and ride many miles everyday. My mom is worried I'm going to die on the scooter, but I think it would be safer than my bike. I don't wear a helmet on my bike, but would on the scooter for legal reasons. I was wondeirng if there is a place for accident statistics comparing scooters/mopeds vs. bicycles ON THE ROAD. ~60% of bike accidents are when the bike was on teh sidewalk, so i want that part ot be thrown out of the reasoning. Anyone know a site or have this info?
