Hi everyone. Recently my mom told me she neeRAB to take me to the doctor to have my back checked out. I've never had any problems with my back. I've had no back pain in two years. Although, in my freshman year of High school, I was having very bad Back problems, extreme lower back pains, etc. I remeraber back in seventh grade there was a screening everyone had to go through to check for scoliosis. They said I had a minor case of scoliosis. But my parents never sought out treatment. Now, I slunch over really badly. And I really don't have a definite "S" shape to my back. Around the middle section, it juts out really badly.. and my mother said my neutral standing position is awkward.

Anyway, i'm sure the doctor is going to do something, but what? Will I have to go corrective surgery? Or will he give me a brace?

And if he gives me a brace, do I need to be on crutches too? I've been told that.. it sounRAB odd. And how long will I need to wear it?

Well I am not sure what they will do. It depenRAB on the severity of the curve. Some people just get physical therapy and it strengthens the back. The only do surgery in extremely severe cases because they have to break the spine and realign it. Just be happy that you are taking care of it now. They didnt find mine until I was done growing and it was too late.. Goodluck!!

If you have a brace, there is no need for crutches with it. It will be a hard plastic brace. My son had one. He wore it 12 hours a day and it kept his curve from progressing far enough to need surgery. His curve is apparent, but it doesn't cause him any pain and is no big deal.

I had surgery for my scoliosis. If they decide to do that, it's a big surgery, but well worth it. I was in a lot of pain. I still have pain, but nothing like it used to be!

Let us know what the doctor says and we'll try to help you through the next step.

Emily
