Why do you need to have a baseline to make a triangulation measurement?

How many planets in the solar system have liquid water, ice and clouds?
explain why parallax is not a good technique for determining distances using triangulation ?

parallax and triangulation are considered to be indirect measurement techniques. why are such techniques used to measure distances in space?
