Sciatica?

I have been tested for most serious dieases as of late because my father died suddenly of a heart attack and I kind of went off the deep-end with anxiety.

Anyways, I hav been having a pain that isn't especially PAINful but rather annoying in my lower right leg. My lower back and hip hurt on my right side and that is coupled with the sensation of water being poured (sometimes hot, sometimes cold) down my right shin/calf. Also, my foot tenRAB to go nurab when I sit in one position for too long.

I can not have an MRI as I am in Canada and to see a specialist would probably take 4-5 months--an MRI would take at least a year or two. I am 24 years old and a student. I am healthy and work out 3 times a week and was doing martial arts twice a week up until a few months ago. The pain has been pretty constant for at least the last week and a half (not really pain but...). I must mention that I get the trickling water feeling and foot nurabness more often than the actual lower back pain.

Thanks in advance.

BTW--the pain tenRAB to come when I sit for too long or stand for too long. Also, sometimes it feels like it is burning and that feeling can be relieved just by a simple leg movement.

I would go to my GP but ever since my father died she passes everything off as anxiety--she is not very understanding. GP's are fairly hard to come by in Canada BTW.

Hi Nina, I'm sorry you're having this pain and I know it is not fun. I cant diagnose you, but it sure sounRAB nerve related, maybe sciatica. Sciatic nerve pain happens when you have something in your spine compressing on the nerve. It could be a herniated disc, bony overgrowth, cyst, etc. There are different things that can cause nerve compression. However, the only way to find out is to see a doctor, preferrably a spine specialist..and to have an MRI done. X-rays wont' be able to show all the soft tissue.

Again, you are someone in Canada who is saying it takes too long to be seen, which is a shame to me. I've seen this from other posters in other countries as well. This is what I worry about IF the US ever takes over our health care. I do think we all deserve access to our healthcare, but dont think it should be run by our government for this very reason. Sometimes it takes too long to get an appointment anyway but it would never take as long as you say here. I've had to wait 2 months sometimes, but when I am in agony, ive went elsewhere, where I didnt have to wait. Thankfully I have that choice. And sometimes once iv'e seen, say like my surgeon, he got me set up for imaging within a few days. I even got an MRI approved thru insurance within 2 hours one time! I guess once the doc saw & examined me, he knew I was in serious pain.

For the time being, you might try some anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen or Aleve. But you really should see a doctor about it.

The only way I could potentially get an MRI quickly is if I go to the ER and exaggerate my symptoms a little to alarm them into giving me an MRI.

I might go to a walk-in clinic that offers MRI's and such (it will cost a pretty penny but it is well worth it IMO). First, I'll give it a few more days to see if the pain persists.
