Hi all...
So after 4 years of dealing with pain that was mostly with sitting and flaring up in the middle of the night.... in the blink of an eye it completely changed today. While walking and standing used to give me the most comfort, today I have a pulsating pain that equates to a literal pain in the butt! It's the weirdest thing!

I walk and with each step it hurts. On the left.... (always on the left).

My question is... does this mean it's getting worse? Or did something shift?

I have an appt with a rheumy on 8/13, but this pain hurts and surprised me!

Any suggestions? I'm guessing I should get my stretching mat out and do some serious stretching tonight.

Will ice help?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Try to warm up by cycling or walking or some activity to get your muscles warmed up and then do your stretches, being very gentle. AfterwarRAB, I would ice. Remeraber that, depending on your age, of course, people can herniate a disk by sneezing...so you may have had something else happen that what you normally are dealing with....:(

Whether the nerve throbs, aches, buzzes, etc. does not really matter, it means that your nerve is irriatated and angry for whatever reason. I would back off on activity to let the nerve calm down as much as possible and ice 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. If the pain continues to throb or becomes worse, I would contract your doctor's office so that he can re-evaluate it and determine if you need any additional treatment. I hope and pray that you find some relief soon. Nerve pain is the worst. God Bless.

I know what you mean... I had l5 s1 microdisectomy. The pain was severe msucle cramps, radicular pain, big toe pain. Now three years past the pain has heightened and I am feeling a bladder pain that feels like burning and insider the thigh and down my left leg and across toes. I got checked 2x for bladder infection and nothing. Then i realized oh my god this is nerve pain and the throb (pulsating) was how it started, intermittently.

I have always been a treadmiller and now an air stepper because the pounding was too much for my neck in the last year (acdf c6 6 fusion bone and plate)

I can tell you that your disc is like toothpast and oozes out on the nerve so you can imagine the slightest 1/10th of a millimetre shift of your vertebrae can change the shape of the disc and how it chooses to sit on the nerve.

I am frightened myself tonight as I hope this is not the start of a more severe herniation to my l5 s1 affecting the bladder. The pain shots I started last month to assist with chronic pain only mask what is happening and you have to separate the two. It is really hard as I am tired of all the off and on pain in different areas of my body since had the injury in 01.

Good luck..let me know if you have this too. I can attest that the throbbing pain you refer to is also familiar to me in the area of the "anus" which sounRAB insane but it is a very freaky feeling..however nerves all work in these sites as well so it makes sense.

I hope you can stay strong and steer yourself in the direction of help.
