I had microdisectomy surgery 10 days ago.L5 S1. For eight days it was pretty good just a few sharp pains here and there but nothing really, then the sciatic pain came back, exactly the same type of pain before op but no where near as bad. Now im worried because it feels like its slowly starting all over again.I am doing all the physio, rehab work to give myself the best chance. Its not the actual pain that im worried about, its just that i dont want to end up like i was pre op. So is this too soon to worry or is this normal or am i doomed? im a 32year old male.

what rehab work- work the dr or therapist gave you to do POST surgery??? I had NO post op rehab and was told NO lifting bending or twisting for THREE MONTHS.

The pain IS normal, the nerve is aggervated from manipulation, and it will slowly dissipate for you (I had 2 level microD) the worse it was herniated/smushing the nerve, the harder time and more pain you get later I've noticed for myself as the nerve heals and regenerates itself.

Give it time and DONT bend lift or twist WHATSOEVER scar tissue is going to form to cover the back of the disc where the micro D was, and to help stabilize and hold in the disc material to heal the disc, if you are bending lifting twisting and other things you SHOULDN'T be doing you are giving yourself a HUGE chance of reherniation.

Take care and give it time! Upto 2-3 months.

i am 6 weeks post op and still have sciatic pain.. doctor says that pain should subside with time.. you say no bending, twisting, lifting.. its now time to get back to work.. i have been trying to build by my sitting time every day but have only managed to get to 2 hours a day.. this involves a lot of resting on the bed to calm things down.. i only taking ibuprofen 600mg at night.. does not help me much before sleeping but lets me get through the night.. mornings are the best but pain increases as teh day progresses.

my dr is in the uk and i am based in dubai.. really difficult to get a hold of him.. i am wondering if there are any pain meRAB that i should take to get through a day at work, which is likely to involve at least 6 hours on the desk..
