Hello,

I have a pinched nerve between my L5 and S1. I had this when I was 18, went to a chiropractor for 6 months and it went away for 7 years. Last Noveraber when it returned I began to see a different chiropractor, 3 times a week for 7 months and it subsided the issue. Now it's been 6 weeks since I've been to the chiropractor (I'm a student without insurance and money) and the pain is back and as bad as ever. I can't sit, drive, sleep, it's seriously the lamest thing of all time. Has anyone had any long term luck with resolving this problem? Acupuncture? Massage? Help!

Thanks.

kenzy101,

You certainly have my sympathy for all of the pain you have been enduring. I have been suffering from sciatica for 4 months now and am scheduled for laminectomy surgery in about a month. Sciatic pain can be extremely painful (okay, HORRIFICALLY painful!) and definitely can affect your entire life quality.

If you haven't already had an MRI or X-rays, it sounRAB to me like it's time to get those to find out exactly what is causing your problem. Depending on those results, some sciatic conditions respond well to conservative treatment (chiropractic, PT, etc.), but sometimes surgery is necessary. Only a doctor will be able to help guide you with this.

As far as not having insurance or money, I would encourage you to contact your county, government center, or medical center to find out if there are any programs available to help in your situation. No person should have to suffer the pain you are experiencing long term.

Keep your chin up high and realize that there is life after sciatica. Also, there are many of us on this board that will keep you in our thoughts and prayers, and we understand what you are experiencing. Take care of yourself!

(cyber hugs!)

Yes, I agree with the other poster since this is the second time you have had a flare it is time to see your family doctor and he can order the appropriate tests. It is so important that you are not manipulated in anyway until you have a diagnosis or have been cleared by a doctor. All it takes is one wrong manipulation and you can have permament damage for life. Trust me you don't want to have back problems for the remainder of your life - it is not fun. Good luck and please keep us posted. We care.

Hi Kenzy

Sorry to hear you are having problems with sciatica!

It is very debilitating isn't it?!

I used to suffer real bad with sciatica down my left side and had loaRAB of physio which made no difference at all.

What did make a difference was acupunture!
After 3 sessions my sciatica was 95% better and i have never looked back.

Just remeraber what works for one may not work for another.

Good luck.

Kenzy, sometimes schools will offer a low cost health insurance plan. Might be worth a look.
I hope you are able to get some relief soon!
