School Project - Motorsports Resort Market Research

*First, let me start by saying that this is not a solicitation for anything more than anonymous information for my school project.*
I am a college student (and certifiable automotive fan) at Regis University in Denver, CO. My Capstone (senior) project involves market research based upon local/regional interest in a motorsports resort (think Ascari Race Resort www.ascari.net or Motor Sport Country Club www.motorsportcc.com) in the Denver Metro area. I do realize that there is a consortium in place building just such a facility, but did not discover this until school had already approved this project. Also, part of the project is to gather/analyze the data myself so while their data could help me as a secondary resource, if they are willing to share, I still need to do my own research. My survey is web-based and contains 11 questions, designed to gather anonymous data about potential users and their interest level in a motorsports resort near the Denver, Colorado metro area. All information gathered is purely for research purposes and is completely anonymous. No information will be shared or distributed to any vendors or solicitors. Also, if you can think of other groups/communities I should contact, please let me know.

I can't wait for graduation this May. My present to myself is going to be a Monster 1100s so I can enjoy my new-found free time.

Thank you,
Matt

Jules,

Thanks for the question. Are you asking from a weather standpoint or logistics? Weather in the Denver area is rather arid with more than 300 days of sunshine. Logistically, this would be considered pre-planning stages so nothing is final. I based this number from what other resorts, both in Europe and stateside, offer as packages.

Thank you,
Matt

Miller Motorsports Park has become a fairly "exclusive" venue and I really hate it. The "special services" and crap just add costs to everyone else.

I'd much rather have a ribbon of asphalt and public restroom and keep the costs lower. Even if I had the income to pay $10,000 dues for track access, thats a lot of money.

And I have no idea why you would want to do a track day a week at the same track. That'd get old really fast.

Your comments are exactly the reason for doing this study. It's at this stage that I can see what people want, how much they would pay for it, and how often they would use it. The nice thing about this stage is it is completely scalable - it can be something complex or simple depending on the type of feedback people are willing to give. Also, I can understand your concern for doing mutiple visits to the same track. Most resorts of this type have are designed to be segmented into different layouts, such as Willow Springs vs Streets of Willow. Hopefully, the design would be challenging and interesting enough to compel members to return frequently.

Thanks for your questions

what do you plan to do in the winter to keep the track open to members all year round for motorcyclists and also curious as to your experience in motorsports

Matt,

I'm currently signed up for 32 track days this year, almost all of them at NJMP, so I'm a typical consumer in your target audience.

As someone who returns week after week to the same track, I can tell you what's important to me:

1. A season pass
2. Paddock space
3. Reasonably priced accomodations, (no more than $100/night), on site.
4. Decent food at a reasonable price. A fancy restaurant at the clubhouse is all fine and well, but not practical for everyday. Track riders need something fast and wholesome when at the track. Something in between a greasy hamburger and an $80.00 dollar sit -down meal.

I also think that people who buy season passes should get some sort of discount and preference on overnight lodging.

Denver experiences more than 300 sunny days a year. When there is a snow storm, any accuulation/water runoff issues would only last one to two days, except during the most horrendous of winter storms.

As far as my experience, most has to do with some auto track time on Brainerd International Raceway and karting. I have yet to take a motorcycle out on a track.
