i'll tell an outline of 2 really scary stories i have read in a horror short story book.
1) 2 frends have had a party and leaving at late night. so, they're passing on a deserted road when they suddenly dash into a woman. they wonder how the woman appeared sooo suddenly. so frend 1 stands beside that woman and talks to her while the frend 2 goes and checks for any damage to the car. when he is doing that, he gets a doubt that y the woman was alone such late night. so he tries to tell tat to frend 1 wen frend1 tells tat the woman wants to go to one place and he asks whether thay can drop her. so frend 2 agrees first but when he looks into the woman's eyes, he jus gets all ghostly scenes in his mind and he jus gets to notice her hands and is astonished to see that they r overturned, like backwards, they r. so he realizes that she is a ghost and grabs frned1 ' s hands and jus pushes him into the car and speeds away without talking a word. after reaching home, he turns back only to see his frend bleeding from his mouth.
other one:
a girl named tina comes from australia to shimla. she is waiting outside when she sees a woman. tat woman comes to tina and tells tat she will be joining her soon. tine doesnt understand a bit but soon the lady leaves without leaving any trace. for tina, that lady looks jus normal.
tina has two other roommates and she is happy with them. and she finds sheela, one of the roommates familiar. but she doesnt know where she saw her. one day they all go out for shopping or sumthing like tat and its already late night wen they r returning. and tina was left behind and her frends go ahead walking past when tina spots tat lady saying," the time's near" and the lady disappears saying this. tina now understand tat this lady looks like sheela. then she runs, panting and tells tat she is gonna die. her frends tell her tat she is jus scared and take her to the room when tina says," pls wait. i have to tell sumthing to u. i came to shimla because, wen i was in australia, i had premonition tat i wud die jus in a place like this. so my dad thot i wud lose tat thot of dieing if i stay in tat kinda place for sumtime. then, sheela, i met ur mother and she said i wud meet her soon."
sheela is puzled. "but my mom died long back..."
then tina understands everything. and her frends go for calling the headmistress. but wen the headmistress comes she doesnt find anyone. so they wait till next day afternoon.
the ending is soooo scary!!!
...they find her hanging to a banyan tree with her tongue hanging out......
these 2 scared me out of my wits.
and sry i used a lot of shprt words and hope u can understand.
u can expand them and add details. or else go to ur local library and read some horror books.

I got one. There once was a person named lil moose, who still has sleepovers where they tell scary stories and such. Well lil moose didn't have a story to tell. Lil moose knew the sleepover was coming up soon, and asked her parents permission to get on the internet and ask at yahoo answers what a good spooky story would be. Of course her parents allowed her as they usually do because its safe for someone who still has sleepovers to be on the internet non stop answering tons of questions and probably joining chatrooms and other peer network systems like facebook or myspace, with all the child predators (who predominantly prey on the internet) out and at large. Well lil moose got on her computer and asked away just like she usually does. Awaiting responses so her friend who will be at the sleepover (i emphasize friend) will be super duper spooked at the scarrrrry stories she has to tell, when suddenly one pops up. Lil moose begins reading the story and part way through realizes that this isn't really a scary story atall, but a story about one sad individual who calls themself lil moose on yahoo answers. Well what lil moose didn't know was that all her crazy internet hijinx and chatroom and networking fun could one day get her into big trouble, trouble that would just make THE BEST sleepover story in the world. Well lil moosey your story has just begun. Ah thank you. Good day.

You might have tried Stephen King but he only writes full length novels.Maybe you can read short summaries of those.
I don't know any horror short story writer.
R.L Stine does write novellas which you can read maybe under an hour but probably all your friends have read GOOSEBUMPS.
Try tales from the crypt too.You just might like them.
Then there's R.L Stevenson's 70-page Dr.Jekyll And Mr. Hyde.
But if you have a couple of days time King is the best(Cujo , Christine are the best)
