I have anxiety almost everyday with anxiety attacks pretty often, i feel sometimes like its over taking my life... im taking klonopins which help calm me down, but i am also prescribed celexa.. and i am terrfifed to take it (celexa), im afraid it will make me worse or that the side effects will be horrible, i also have OCD which is one reason my doctor gave it to me, can anyone help me overcome my fear of this medicine?

Hi,
I have been diagnosed with GAD for over 10 years now. I have been on many medications, but the first med that actually finally made me feel half decent was Celexa. That is after being on many other SSRI's, MAOI's, effexor..I also take Klonopin and that is what really takes the edge of my anxiety, but Celexa was the first drug that actually felt like it did something. It didn't cure my anxiety, (I know take Cipralex, which is a sister to Celexa) but it sure helped. I hope this eases your mind. And remeraber, people with anxiety are always searching for something to be wrong (analyzing), so try to just let it do its thing, remeraber at least 14 days, you will never know until you try:)

If im tricking myself into having more anxiety and more depression than whats really there, will celexa help that??? some days im great an have no problem at all, and other days i feel really on edge, so its hard for me to really believe that i need medication.

I really can't say if you are tricking yourself or not. Naturally, everyone has good days and bad days, anxiety or not. So you would really have to try the medication to see if it benefits you. I was just saying that you will need to give the medication time (up to 4 weeks) to reach its full potential.
Good luck

Why arn't you on a relaxant while you wait for the anit-depressant to work?

I have had a long journey with doctors. I was given every other anti-depressant known besides the most famous PROZAC! I requested my doc to give me this drug as I tried everything else.

I have been on Xanax for most of my life and finally I am able to reduce my dose of Xaxax confidently with prozac.

...It did take a while though for the side strong anxiety side effect to dissipate, everyone is different and react differntly to treatments. Give them the time reported to work, but seriously, I would use the most popularly advised meRAB - not matter what doctor's say (ow this newer drug) it's up to you!!!

Why suffer. They give a dog valium if it has anxity, why not humans. Say that to your doctor!
