This is my first post ever in a thread regarding this type of pain....All I seem to see are negative results in all the online blogs. I hope there are more positive outcomes than negatives but that they are out enjoying life like it once was instead of complaining like the rest of us haha.

I am only 27 years old and had lower back surgery for a ruptured L5-S1 on October 23rd 2008. I'm very healthy, not over weight...but the snowboard accident left me with no choice....the pain was not subsiding after a year, which included injections, chiro, PT, etc etc....My pain now is a lot less than before surgery but with one factor...SCAR TISSUE. I am off my meRAB, but if i bend at the waste or lift my right leg the pain is still sharp...so much for ever playing soccer or football again. The doc said my follow up MRI showed a substantial amount of epidural scar tissue forming around the nerve roots and where the disc portion had been removed....now I am worried that I will suffer with back pain for the rest of my life!!!! I am only 27...**REMOVED***. My surgeon never went over any potential concerns with me before surgery...and he told me months before I decided to get the operation that sometimes they heal on there own (my first mri). But after surgery...he said because I waited so long to get the operation...scar tissue had already begun to form around the herniation and the nerve...again...WHAT **REVISED**?? Make up your mind buddy!!!
Anyways...I would greatly appreciate any input from other's that have gone through this procedure....Can you sue back surgeons for not fixing the problem or misleading information that may have lead to this problem by not explaining anything to me or issuing post-op advise like PT sooner than i started???
I want my life back...I'm tooooo young to give up!!! I have heard of Active Release Technique...does this work or do you have to get it done right away rather than waiting??
Thanks

Keep your head up. I was 22 years old when I went through back surgery at L4-L5. I had two within 5 weeks because the first one failed for one reason or another. I can honestly say that it took a year after my surgery to finally start to feel normal again. I still have some back aches, but I function and I do fairly phyiscal work. I am now just about 28 and it's been 6 years since my surgery.
