Hello,

Iv'e been doing some research and will talk to the chiro doctors tomorrow. But from what I'm reading online the scalenes can cause hyperparestesia( sensivity to hot/cold). I think this might be what they are going to call it, I've now got it up both arms, and feel like I have ben gay on them much of the time. If anyone else has experience with this, I'd love to know I'm not alone. I understand this might be about trigger points. I have a right scalene and scm that wants to spasm often and I'm on skelaxin for it, and stretch it often. I'm thinking I need to heat it a few times a day to calm trigger points too. Somehow trying lexipro did this for me a couple of months ago. I got this symptom across my whole upper body and quit lexipro very fast over having all of the side effects.

one thing i do know is that plain old TPs would NOT cause what it is you are feeling with that hyper to hot/cold,and that "ben gay" level of cold either. they mostly radiate out pain and can also impinge nerves too when they are really bad. the thing you need to keep in mind about that fascial covering there around those muscles is that these are not seperate. that fascia runs from around the brain and litterally down thru your toes as one huge interconnected "sheet" like a fine spiderweb like covering? so it IS always possible to have on really angry bunch of muscles(or even just one baddy) that WILL create kind of a domino affect? this is only becasue it IS all connected to each other. the thing here is,that fascia not onlt wraps around only muscle,it wraps every organ and blood vessel as well. so it really can create some bigger issue when even one small area is affected.

myofascial release is what i have been using for about the past year and a half just to be able to actually move certain areas and it also allows be to just 'breathe' again normally. i have whats called polycystic kidney disease that just creates very huge kidneys. my right one got so huge when i tried lyrica(it swelled my kidneys for some insane reason) back in 05 that it got too big to even sit in my back anymore and was forced into the path of least resistance into the front. i have had my R kidney just jammed inside of my ribcage and into my diaphram now for years. it does tend to anger that diaphram/muscle and casue it to contract and create this tight 'banding' sensation around my whole rib cage area. after every myo release session i have had, i can just breathe without any restricted feeling. god its amazing, really.

i just really do think that myo release would really help you with what you are dealing with right now, much much better(and less risk) than using any chiro adjustments which depending upon how bad things are up there just can sometimes make things even worse for some people.

if i knew that true extent of what was found in that MRI, it would really help tons in just seeing what areas you have that are affected. that alone would narrow down possible reasons for that hypersensitivity. if your cord is involved here in ANY way shape or form,it could explain ALOT. just how long ago was that MRI actually done? when did this latest symptom actually show itself? marcia

The MRI is 6 weeks old. Are you trying to diagnose a specific disc. problem in me? I'm trying to talk about these problems being potentially only muscular?

I have myofascial problems in basically every shoulder muscle. I don't have the weird ben-gay sensation. However, sometimes when the spasms get bad, I get nerve and circulatory impingement at the shoulder. This produces sharp pains in my fingers, mild swelling, color changes, etc.

i am not trying to Dx anything, just giving you possible reasons for what you are feeling that may or may not all be totally muscle related, thats all. in most cases, when muscles are reacting the way yours are, there is an underlying "trigger" somewhere that is causing the muscle issues. it's the nerves that fire out to the muscle. it can be 'just' a nerve issue or it can be more deep like spinal. just trying to help, sorry i wont post anymore. marcia

It is not my experience that this sort of pain is anything other than muscular irabalance-related due to my poorly healed whiplash injury. The Chir. College specialist told me today, I have completely non-working left SCM at the top that is in chronic spasm. I've had muscle injuries before that have affected my shoulder girdle, I've just not had the same symptoms as I do now. This time I got dizziness and pulling sensations on my ears from the leavator and SCM and suboxippital spasms. I'm going to be getting more advanced exercises and treatments on those muscles starting next week and expect them to balance out much more. RIght now my right levator spasms after about an hour of driving and it's attrmpting to shorten on me.
