Saw Transformers Last Night *Spoilers*

Random thoughts from a longtime G1 fan, hopefully some of this is unique.

TLDR ALERT:

[* I was wondering if they were going to bust out Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" when Sam activated the Cube.

* With how much critics pumped Bay's ability to create "incredible" action scenes, perhaps my expectations were a too high with me hoping that the last battle (while not bad) was going to be like the Battle of Autobot City proportions...or bigger.

For those of you that didn't see the original movie, this made the battle scene in the new movie look like a catfight.

* You can create good battle scenes without having the camera look like someone trying to capture it all on his cell phone.

* Megatron, Prime's brother?

* It just wouldn't be a Spielberg movie without the boy coming-of-age and saving the day.

* I was a bit irked at the fact that the humans seemed to steal the Autobots' thunder, and the Autobots were reduced to metal-based meat shields.

* People can give us G1 fans all the flak they want about being butthurt, obsessed fanboys, but you do have to admit that without the mass amounts of original G1 fans, this movie likely would have never cleared the concept phase.

* The Autobot designs were pretty good, but the Decepticons looked like one garbled mess; there were times where you could barely make out what they exactly were supposed to look like in robot form. It would be nice to see a more simplified, coherent design in the sequel.

* A movie with Tyrese in it whose dialogue didn't reek of ghetto slang for once? Nice.

* The movie could have easily done without Michaela, but hey, whatever fills the seats and sells DVDs.

* Sparkplug goes from fearless mechanic to wimpy suburban father? Boo.

* I can deal with the product placement, as long as the characters aren't explictly saying the brand names in the dialog (the eBay reference was a bit much).

* The Autobots (save Jazz, that was a given) trying to speak like humans (Prime: "My bad.") was hard to watch.]

What would make the sequel cool:

* NO GESTALTS (e.g. Defensor, Menasor, Devastator, Superion, Computron, Predaking, etc.), NO CARE.

* You want a real battle scene? Two bots: Metroplex and Trypticon fighting with everyone else in a city. Of course, this would be a CG fustercluck the likes of which humanity has never seen.

* Megatron revives and is given Frank Welker's voice, and can throw in some BS line about how life in the trench messed up his vocal processor and made him insane or some other technobabble. Hell, it worked for Galvatron when the movie transitioned into the new season.

* Someone hire DRSMOOV. He does an amazing Starscream impression.

That's all I've got. I would say wait for the DVD, that way you don't have to worry about all the morons inserting their own dialogue around you.
