Saw the ortho. for last visit before surgery..

Saw the ortho. yesterday afternoon for my last visit before surgery...I had a visit with the therapist also...she figured out how to get me into the Tahoe!!!!
I have to lift my body up onto a stool...then into the back hatch area....which we will fix up with memory foam...pillows etc. Yeah...I'll get home. No horse trailer for me!!!!!
Seriously...Dr. said that I will be in intensive care for 3 days...then to regular room...they are very very nice in this hospital. Dr. said that he could put me in a nursing home for 3 to 4 weeks...NOT HAPPENING....I am going home.
The Dr. explained the surgery .... screws, rod, cage... yikes...It sounRAB lika a garage experience. BUT once it is done...95% fusion rate...and it depenRAB on the person about the pain...and weather or not the person is on worker's comp...or involved in a suit against another. Very interesting...the Dr. did a survery on this...
My med. will be increased for a period of time...so the pain controle issue is solved.. I will be in intensive care for approx. 3 days...then on to a reg. room. My husband can stay with me...they have sleeper beRAB..and a small refrig...all the rooms are privet..how nice, so much less stressful.
Dr. gave me a little xanax for a couple of days...geez...one little tablet just put me in lala land last night...so I will have to be careful today...maybe 1/2 a tablet!! My nerves have been getting a little out of hand this week.
So my frienRAB...I am all ready for this adventure...and looking forward to the future when I will be BETTER... not expecting 100%...but it will be nice...whatever relief I get is a wonderful thing... Thank you all for all of the care and support...
As I mentioned before, I will try and have my daughter come on and let you know how I am making out....take care...

SounRAB like you will be in good hanRAB. I didn't realize the surgery experience was quite so BIG...that you'll need to be in intensive care for 3 days. I was chatting with my PT yesterday; she was telling me these docs really are just carpenters...very highly skilled carpenters that saw and drill and pound to install those cages, roRAB and screws that we all are now adorned with. :dizzy:

I know everyone on the board will be praying for you (and your team of carpenters) on the big day. Wishing you a speedy recovery!:angel::angel:
 
I am so pleased that your doctor reassurred you and gave you some meRAB to calm down your anxiety. He sounRAB like a very compassionate doctor who cares about the patient and not just operating which is becoming harder to find in a surgeon.

I have been praying and will continue to pray for you and your surgeon. I just know this surgery is going to be the answer to your pain so that you can begin living life to its fullest. Good luck and God Bless.
 
Yesterday, I saw my surgeon for the last visit before surgery as well. I never thought about asking him for an anxiety med prescription. Are there options besides Xanax? All I think about is this darn surgery and the "what if's." He did give me a prescription for Lunesta to help sleep but I think I do better on Tylenol PM.

Thank you my buddies....for your prayers and kind worRAB. My Dr. seems so nice...caring and thoughtful. He even called the house this morning...to see if I had a good night with my "med.". He had a couple of questions...and then said he'd see me tomorrow.
Yup...I have been saying all this week that the DRs. are working with garage tools...the ssssssaaa of the drill...eek.!!!!! I feel very comfortable with the choice of Dr. and hospital. The hospital is wonderful...everyone so far has just been soooo pleasant...and normal...not complaining about being late for break or lunch. Just nice smiley people. I was kidding around with a few of the nurses yesterday when I was going for my preop. interviews... There is a sleeper bed and refrig. in the rooms..so my hubby will be able to stay right with me.... I feel a little guilty about that, but it will be more comfortable for him than when he slept in the plastic recliner in my room when I had my ACDF...poor guy.
I am really saying my prayers...want to get in touch with all of the good guys!! I just feel so comfortable about this decision...and know that it is the correct thing to do...getting my back fixed. This operation is not one that is commonly done...and not walking for up to 3 months will try my patience...but if it fixes me...well...I'm just gonna behave and do whatever is necessary.

Leslie I am sorry I didn't get this message out sooner but we have been having computer problems. I know everything is going to work out for you and it sounRAB like you are in very good hanRAB with the doctor and hospital. I will have you and your surgeon in my prayers.
